Hi,

One of our users get's the above error message when working in a workbook in
Excel and accessing Tools > Options. So far we have tried a repair
installation, but it still appears. Does anybody know of a fix for this.

I am going to see if I can find out more on the web and will post anything I
try on the user's machine when I speak to them later.

There is a problem with (one of) the entries of Excel's options in the
registry.

One thing to try is to open Excel in safe mode: hold the control key and open
Excel. It will prompt if you want to open in safe mode, click yes.

Then open Tools, options and visit every tab. Click OK, close and reopen Excel
to see if that fixed your problem.

If that fails, one possible fix is to remove the user from the client machine
and have him/her log on again. (this might not work depending on how settings
are managed on your network, e.g. roaming profiles).

If that fails, you may need to start editing the registry, let me know.

Hi Jan,

I will try the safe mode fix on the user's machine first when I speak to
them. Please could you let me know about the registry key's which need to be
modified. I would rather edit the registry than rebuild the user profile. We
have rebuilt profiles in the past and this causes all sorts of problems with
applications that they have installed and generates a lot of support calls.

The registry fix appears to have worked so far. We have tested it on the
user's machine and he is able to open the spreadsheets which were playing up.
